Rolling Up Their Sleeves – Stories of food, family and community

Exhibition opening Sunday May 3rd – Saturday May 30th

This exhibition brings together stories and memories of food from the Barossa and Waikerie communities, inspired by the cookbook Just Like Grandma Used to Make.

Created by Those Barossa Girls, Sharalee Menz and Marieka Ashmore. Rolling Up Their Sleeves explores the people behind the original Barossa Cookbook, weaving together social history and recipes that have been passed down through generations.

Locally, the exhibition reflects the strong connection between the Barossa and Riverland, where many families carried these traditions with them. Through shared memories, photographs and stories, it celebrates the role food has played in bringing people together, often in simple, meaningful ways.

The exhibition is presented across two spaces, one sharing Barossa stories, and the other reflecting Waikerie families, highlighting the connection between our communities.

Sharalee Menz will open the exhibition, sharing the story behind the book and her passion for preserving traditional recipes. The cookbook Rolling Up Their Sleeves will also be available for purchase during the exhibition.
